E-books and New Digital Technology: Friend or Foe of Independent Literary Publishing?

A panel discussion co-sponsored by Poets House and the Council of Literary Magazines and Presses

As part of the New York Is Book Country calendar of events, a group of editors, representatives of the media, and others gather to explore the opportunities and obstacles that e-books present for independent literary publishing. Panelists include John Oakes, publisher of Four Walls Eight Windows press, Adrian J. Taylor, founder and president of Fictionopolis Communications, and Ram Devineni, publisher of Rattapallax Magazine and press. The panel will be moderated by Calvin Reid, reporter for Publishers Weekly who has written widely on e-business.

The panel will explore a range of experiences and opinions about the opportunities and drawbacks that new technologies (e-books, print on demand, the internet) present for literary magazines and presses. The panel will also attempt to interpret the impact of e-publishing for smaller publishers.
