Dwell in Possibility! Donna Masini at Prismatic Park

Between August 29th and September 3rd, poet Donna Masini will be in Prismatic Park inviting you to write “postcard poems,” create a collaborative “Chain of Imagination,” participate in poetry readings, celebrate Labor Day.

Literary Partners Program: A New Colossus, A 92Y Reading

In 1883, the same year she was teaching immigrants at 92Y’s then-downtown branch, Emma Lazarus wrote her famous poem, “The New Colossus.”

“Give me your tired, your poor, / Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,” muses the Statue of Liberty in Lazarus’s imagined monologue. “Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, / I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Literary Partners Program: Readings, Discussion, and Inscribed Signings: 2017 Books Authored by J. Chester Johnson

Two books, authored by J. Chester Johnson and published during 2017, will be featured at this Poets House event.

Auden, the Psalms, and Me tells the story, with many personal vignettes, of the retranslation of the psalms now included in the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer, for which Johnson and W. H. Auden were the two poets on the drafting committee. This retranslation has become a standard.

Weeklong Workshop for Teens


Weeklong workshop bringing together high school writers from around the city and world for a marathon session of writing, reading, exploring, and discovering poetry and themselves as poets.

Guest faculty includes spoken word star and celebrated educator Jon Sands, poet and editor/publisher of Winter Tangerine Yasmin Belkhyr, celebrated poet and teacher Dave Johnson, and NYC Youth Poet Laureate Sharon Lin. The workshop concludes with a reading/performance at Poets House by participants.

Winter Tangerine Summer Intensive Workshops 

Winter Tangerine is holding two sessions of a four-day intensive writing workshop at Poets House. We design our workshops for writers who want to challenge themselves and their work. We won't teach you how to write: instead, we want to collectively build new lenses meant to create dynamic readings and writings. As a student, you'll engage in daily writing activities, lesson-based writing prompts, & group discussions led by a team of enthusiastic advisors.

An Evening of Poetry and Music with Saudi Poet Abdulatif Yousef

Poetry is a vital part of Saudi culture celebrated through popular poetry festivals and in regional televised poetry competitions where Saudi poets excel. Drawing from this rich tradition is Abdulatif Yousef, a renowned Saudi-born poet known for dazzling audiences across the Gulf with his multimedia-rich poetry readings.
