Poets House's own Michael Romanos introduces two of the most famous American poets of the 19th Century: Emily Dickinson and Walt Whitman. Inspired by their revolutionary poetry and fascinating life stories, children will write their own poetic letters to the poets.

Join Richard Lewis and the Touchstone Center Theatre Ensemble in a workshop and performance and imagine becoming the sun and the moon, a blossoming flower and the spring rain.

Join us for a morning of baseballs and bees as Douglas Florian reads hilarious poems from his two latest books Poem Runs and UnBEElievables. There will be line drives on paper and sweet verse in a workshop to follow.

U.S. Children’s Poet Laureate J. Patrick Lewis will “bury” young visitors with his sidesplitting and endlessly imaginative poems from a career spanning over fifty poetry books for children. Not to be missed by any aspiring young writer, Lewis will talk about where his ideas come from and give great tips for those just starting out.

In celebration of Valentine’s Day, Poets House presents Albert Lamorisse’s timeless children’s film classic The Red Balloon. Afterward, children will make their own floating valentines in the form of hot-air balloon mobiles.
