Force of Light: A Multimedia Tribute to the Life & Poetry of Paul Celan

Barbez, a critically-acclaimed "ethno-punk-cabaret" ensemble, performs Force of Light, a multimedia event that interweaves the poetry of Paul Celan with music and video. The songs have been recorded as part of the Radical Jewish Culture series on John Zorn's Tzadik label. Experimental poet, playwright and performance artist Fiona Templeton will narrate.

Diorama-Rama! with Carin Berger

In this diorama-making workshop, hosted by writer and artist Carin Berger, we’ll build marvelous miniature worlds using plastic boxes and plenty of fun ephemera. We’ll then fill our dreamscapes with poetry to make them truly come alive.

Carin Berger is the author and illustrator of award-winning children's books including A Perfect Day and The Little Yellow Leaf.

Holding Up the Sky: Haiku Poetry Workshop

Join us outside in our beautiful backyard to learn about the ancient art form of haiku. With Bashō and Issa as our guides we’ll write our own haiku poems and then paint them on stones to take home.

Tell-Tale Tales: An Introduction to Edgar Allan Poe

Spinner of such classics as “The Tell-Tale Heart” and “The Raven,” Edgar Allan Poe’s work delightfully frightens even today. We’ll learn all about his life and work in the 1800s and re-tell some of his most famous tales and poems. Finally, using some very dark (arts and crafts) materials, we’ll create our own sinister ravens.

This new tradition invites Members and their sleeping bags to spend the night at 10 River Terrace reading, writing and dreaming in the dimmed stacks of our library. Poet Kristin Prevalett will host our group, leading poetry exercises and more, on this very special night.

This event is open to Members only. Space is limited.
