Poetry of Immigration:
A Poetic Celebration of the 125th Anniversary of the Statue of Liberty

POSTPONED

An Invitation to all Library Book Discussion Groups
Join us for a special day of celebration in honor of the 125th Anniversary of the Statue of Liberty. Open to librarians and book discussion group members, we will host a day of readings and discussions on incorporating poetry into discussion groups, based on our One City, Many Poems collection. One City, Many Poems was an initiative developed during Immigrant Heritage Week in 2010 (see below) and its poems, from writers worldwide, focused on the immigrant experience. Contact Reginald Harris (reggie@poetshouse.org; 212- 431-7920 ext. 2842) for more information and a copy of the One City, Many Poems collection.
Co-sponsored by the Statue of Liberty National Monument & Ellis Island.

Seventh Annual Immigrant Heritage Week—April 15-21, 2010

Celebrate poetry, diversity and the immigrant experience during Immigrant Heritage Week (April 15–21) with One City, Many Poems, a program of poetry discussion groups and related events put together by Poets House in collaboration with the Brooklyn Public Library, The New York Public Library and the Queens Library. Based on the popular reading-group model used by libraries for nonfiction and fiction, poetry discussions will focus on poetry from around the world and will take place in public library locations across the five boroughs. Latino, Chinese, Middle Eastern, Russian, African, Caribbean, Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi poetry are among the selections chosen for discussion. This initiative is made possible by generous funding from the Brooklyn Community Foundation. For dates and times of One City, Many Poems events see below.
